The Jenischpark was part of Caspar Voght"s extensive "ornamental farm", his "parc du midi". It was re-designed after 1828 creating a spacious garden with meadows, trees and shrubbery and wonderful vistas. The view across the park to the Elbe from the garden room of the Jenisch-Haus, built between 1831 and 1834, is most impressive. It houses a museum of Hanseatic domestic life. On the first floor of this unpretentious but elegant building facing the Elbe runs a balcony which rests on four Doric pillars made of sandstone. Cast iron gold-plated railings enrich the house and adorn the windows and balcony.
